Doceree Dialogue Episode 13: Inside the Editorial Engine Powering Life Sciences Events
As the healthcare and life sciences industry finds its footing in a post-pandemic world, one thing is clear: content, connection, and credibility are driving people back, especially in person.
In the latest episode of Doceree Dialogue, Ritesh Patel Chief Growth Officer, Doceree, spoke with Ayla Ellison, Editor-in-Chief, Fierce Life Sciences and Healthcare, about how editorial strategy shapes industry events, why authenticity is becoming non-negotiable in pharma marketing, and what trends are emerging beyond the ever-present AI conversation.
Why In-Person Healthcare Events Are Back—with Energy
One of the most noticeable shifts Ayla observes is the renewed enthusiasm for in-person events.
“You can feel the energy. People seem excited to be meeting in person again—whether it’s the sessions or the networking afterward.”
While large, well-curated events are thriving, Ayla notes that smaller or less differentiated gatherings are struggling to sustain attendance—suggesting a future shaped by fewer, more meaningful touchpoints.
“I think the bigger ones will succeed. Some of the smaller or niche ones are disappearing because they’re not getting enough people.”
Beyond AI in Healthcare: The Growing Demand for Authenticity
While AI in Healthcare technology remains a dominant topic, Ayla highlights another theme emerging consistently across interviews: authenticity.
“There’s almost a demand for authenticity. It’s something you can’t fake.”
In pharma marketing, this means finding more genuine ways to connect—especially through patient voices—and bridging the gap between awareness and action.
“It’s about how do we reach people where they’re consuming media, and then how do we bridge that gap to the next step.”
From digital and CTV to podcasts, social platforms, and live experiences, the challenge lies in designing campaigns that feel real—and actionable.
Bringing Patient Voices Back to the Center
A powerful moment in the conversation centered on remembering the true impact of healthcare innovation.
“At the end of the day, people go into this industry because they want to help—to save lives, to make people healthier. But that can get lost along the way.”
Elevating patient stories, Ayla explains, not only restores perspective but also breaks down stigma and reinforces purpose.
“Even a slight improvement—a tool that makes scheduling easier or helps someone understand their bill—can make a huge difference in someone’s life.”
What’s Next for Healthcare: Celebrating Impact and Innovation
Looking ahead, Ayla shared her excitement about the Fierce 50, a project that brings the entire Fierce editorial team together to celebrate changemakers across healthcare, biotech, and pharma.
“Every day I edit those profiles, I feel inspired. Some are big names, others are behind the scenes—but they’re all doing amazing work.”
As AI in healthcare technology continues to evolve, the broader industry, the challenge remains staying focused amid constant change.
“It’s about keeping who we’re writing for at the center—and blocking out the noise. It sounds simple, but it’s a challenge every day.”
